EXCURSION OPTIONS

1. Sarakiniko

You have not understood Milos if you do not go to Sarakiniko. About 4 km from Adamas is a small natural wonder in the north of the island, with an unreal lunar landscape thanks to its off-white rocks.

The beach got its name from the Saracen pirates who were hiding there. You will love the turquoise waters, but those who love the beach will also be happy. Dive from the white rocks into the emerald waters or just enjoy the sun and the light of the Aegean.

This beach is not organized and is suitable for children but not for the disabled. There is only a canteen at the beginning of the beach, so it would be good to go equipped. Choose it when there are no north winds.

Due to the white rocks there is a great reflection of sunlight and sunscreen is essential.

2. Agios Konstantinos - Alogomantra

About 6 km from Adamas in the north of the island is the impressive beach Alogomantra, beautiful thanks to its incredible shape which is half a cave and offers its shade. Its golden sand plays with the shallow emerald waters and you will not want to leave it.

Suitable for children, but not for the disabled, you need to go organized and equipped with the necessary things. Another small beach hidden on the right excites lovers of tranquility. And here to go when there is no north wind. Nearby there are two small caves that you can explore.

Near 200 m. From Alogomantra beach, the very picturesque settlement of Agios Konstantinos stands out, with white houses and bright blue windows. You will be impressed by the carved underground chapel of the Saint, which is often flooded by the sea and the traditional "wires" that stored the boats for protection from bad weather.

3. Firopotamos

About 6 km north of Adamas, Firopotamos is an idyllic fishing village, with a sandy beach surrounded by tamarisk trees for natural shade, while it has a few umbrellas with sunbeds.

To the right of the beach there are the "wires", the small houses where fishermen used to use their boats to protect their boats in winter. It is worth visiting the back side of the beach to see the small settlement with the wires, the church of Agios Nikolaos and to climb the hill for the demolished castle (this is the old ore processing factory). It is an accessible beach, suitable for children and the disabled.

4. Mytakas

Beautiful beach with crystal clear emerald waters, Mytakas, is located on the north side of the island, 5 km from Adamas. It consists of a large beach and another 2 that are next to a V-shape between rocks.

A delight for your eyes, the fishermen's houses with the so-called "wires", which protected their boats from the waves. With bright colors and a wonderful view, the photographer will take you out of you.

It is not an organized beach, but there is a seasonal canteen in July and August. When there are no north winds, enjoy your bath and enjoy an authentic Greek summer.

5. Pachaina

An amazing beach in the north of the island, quiet, with clear waters and a small shop with a few sunbeds, about 7 km from Adamas. In the middle, for the most part, is a beautiful sandy beach.

On the left it has a wonderful spot with sand, rocks, as if you were on another beach.

The right part of it is also wonderful. It has a small, closed creek with sand which is independent of the main beach and is accessible from the top. At this point there are rocks where you can sit and watch the beautiful sunset.

With fine golden sand, it is not organized. Suitable for your relaxation and peace of mind. Suitable for children, but not for the disabled.

6. Firiplaka

Fyriplaka is located 11 km from Adamas, in the southern part of the Island. Like most southern beaches it is easily accessible. It takes care and a little walking to get off, but you get compensated with the above!

Large beach with white-gray fine sand. It is divided into 2 parts thanks to a very large rock where in one part there is a beach bar and sunbeds while in the other absolute silence. If you go that way, provide an umbrella.

Because the waters are shallow, the sea is warmer and especially suitable for children, not for the disabled.

7. Tsigrado

For those who love adventure and are willing to go down a ladder with the help of rope, Tsigrado has a beautiful landscape and enchanting waters.

Full of small hidden caves, accessible only by boat or swimming! Become an explorer, but know that August is very crowded and waiting on the stairs.

It is difficult to carry bulky supplies and it is not easy for young children. Not suitable for the disabled.

8. Plathiena

A beach that is not easily caught by the wind (except the northeast), easily accessible, at 7 km northeast of Adamas, Plathiena has everything in a harmonious balance.

With tamarisk trees for shade, a few umbrellas and sunbeds alternatively, small beach bar, shallow and clear waters, reminiscent of a huge pool. Suitable for families, groups, children and the disabled. The shower and the screen that you can change are in the pluses.

It is close to Plaka the capital of the island and has many options for food and drink around. And only for the wonderful sunset it is worth visiting.

9. Provatas

Provatas beach is 9 km from Adamas, in the southern part of the island. Access is easy so you can enjoy an amazing beach with crystal clear waters! It is organized and has a few trees that offer you their cool shade. However, because the sunbeds are few and some consider them expensive, there is room to get your own umbrellas.

On this beautiful beach, the rocks and caves that form, take your breath away. On the blonde fine beach children can play endlessly without fear, since the water is shallow and clear. Also suitable for the disabled.

10. Achivadolimni

It is located in the embrace of the natural port of Adamas, on its south side and at a distance of 7.7 km. With shallow crystal clear waters, gentle sand, it is suitable for families and the disabled. Some tamarisk trees offer natural shading and coolness.

As Achivadolimni is organized, it is for the days when you want to be treated in the very helpful beach bars. You are selected in more bars you will relax, with music or just the sound of the waves.

Taking a 1 km walk you can find the lake with clams, which gave the name to the beach. Nearby there is the organized camping of Milos. Know that when it blows from the north, the wind catches it. It is a favorite beach for wind surfers!

11. Paleochori

One literally "warm" beach is Paleochori, about 10 km south of Adamas. Due to the phenomenon of geothermal heat, you cook food on the metallic sandy beach!

The water deepens somewhat abruptly, but it is crystal clear and the sand and pebbles combine. It is not ideal for small children but it is suitable when north winds blow. It has a beach bar, but also space for your own umbrella. There is also a restaurant that serves food cooked in volcanic sand (volcanic food)!

12. Holy Sunday

A large beautiful and quiet beach, 9.5 km south of Adamas, is Agia Kyriaki. You will enjoy its deep blue and crystal clear waters and the shade of the tamarisk trees. It combines sand and a small translucent pebble where the wave breaks.

Once the beach was full of these special pebbles and became souvenirs by many, but now their collection is being prosecuted.

Unorganized as it is, some people prefer it for this reason, so you will need your supplies. It is easily accessible. It deepens relatively soon but is not caught by the north winds. Not suitable for young children. With care for the disabled.

13. Plaka

In the northern and left lap of the port, about 5 km from Adamas, is the picturesque capital of the island Plaka. Cobbled narrow alleys for relaxing walks and the castle built by the Venetians in the 13th century. will enchant you in Plaka.

From there you can enjoy idyllic sunsets and panoramic views of Adamas Bay.

At the western end of Plaka, Panagia Korfiatissa was built in 1810. During your visit there, in addition to the relics of saints, the gilded epitaph of 1600, which came from Smyrna, feel the historical continuity in the courtyard that is paved with tombstones from the old town.

In Plaka there is an Archaeological Museum, a Folklore Museum and an Ecclesiastical Museum, to tour according to your interests. Food, drink and entertainment in the picturesque alleys, in great variety.

14. Mandrakia

Do not miss to visit this beautiful, small, picturesque fishing village.

It is located in the northern part of the island, 4.5 km. by Adamas. The impressive "wires", with doors in bright colors were storage places for small boats from bad weather.

The photos you will take will amaze you and the local food in the traditional cafe is wonderful. For swimming only two very small beaches or between the rocks for water lovers. Of course it is caught by the north winds but it has very easy access.

15. Catacombs

Unique in size in Greece and one of the most remarkable along with Rome and the Holy Land, the Catacombs are located on a slope near the village of Tripiti, about 1.5 km south of Plaka. They were buried under huge volumes after the earthquakes of the 6th century AD and became a legend over the centuries.

They were discovered in 1840 by archaeologists.

There are three of them and their total length is 185 m. We can see excavated tombs and places where the first Christians performed mysteries but also inscriptions over the tombs of the first Christians who martyred. An estimated 8,000 early Christians were buried in the catacombs.

16. Ancient Theater

About one km from Plaka and 5.5 km from the port, you can admire the ancient Roman theater, located on the slope to Klima, very close to the catacombs and where the statue of Aphrodite was found. The space is open from 6.00 am- 6.00 pm. and if you go during the day you need a hat, as there is no shade at all.

After a partial reconstruction, it impresses with its acoustics but also with the view of the natural port of the island.

Every summer it hosts events of the cultural festival of Milos, which takes place in mid-June to early July every year. If you are on the island at such a time, take the opportunity to enjoy the place, the spectacle and the view!

17. Papafragas

It is said that the beach was named after the last Frankish priest of the island who guarded his boat there. At the NE end of the island and about 7.5 km from the port of Adamas, it is a wonderful experience or visit to Papafraga Cave with its tiny beach and the small, long narrow peninsula that stretches in front of you. The beach is not organized, so it is good to be properly prepared. There are two small caves that offer shade at noon.

A place that you must definitely photograph when you visit Milos because of its uniqueness and its rare and wild beauty. Access is not easy. Not suitable for young children and the disabled. You have to go down a downhill path carved into the rock. But the wild beauty of the landscape compensates you.

Next to it is the archeological site of Fylakopi with the prehistoric settlement of the early Bronze Age (3000 BC), one of the most important in the Aegean, with many particularly important finds and traces of habitation up to the Mycenaean era (1100 BC). ).

18. Archaeological Museum

A neoclassical building by Ziller, built in 1870, houses the Archaeological Museum in Plaka, Milos. For those who have not been to the Louvre, here is an exact replica of the magnificent statue of Aphrodite of Milos. The statue was accidentally found in 1820 by a farmer from Milos at a location near Plaka.

In the Archaeological Museum of Milos you will see mainly exhibits from two periods of prosperity of the island. The first is the prehistoric period and the second starts around 1,000 BC until the beginning of the first century AD. The prehistoric collection of the Prison will surely impress you. You will admire the famous "Lady of Prison", a clay sculpture of a female figurine from 1,400 BC. found in the Mycenaean Sanctuary and many figurines from the Sanctuaries of Prison IV.

Burial pits, impressive vessels, tools and weapons made of obsidian, coins, but also plates with the ancient Milos alphabet that consisted of 21 letters and much more, will take you to antiquity.
