Overview

Our destination will be Methana.

A whole day away from Nafplio, full of adventure, amazing landscapes, and fun! We start our day by picking you up from the hotel and heading towards Methana.

Location: Methana - Sleeping Beauty!

The Peloponnese is full of unexplored magic – a kind of magic hidden in off-season and off-road places like the volcanic peninsula of Methana. With more than 30 craters, Methana is the northwesternmost part of the Aegean islands' volcanic arc, which also includes Milos, Santorini, and Nisyros. Just like these islands, Methana was born as an island a few million years ago but became connected to the mainland of southeastern Peloponnese by a narrow isthmus that emerged from the sea during one of the many eruptions and accompanying earthquakes. In 230 BC, a major eruption (near the present-day village of Kameni Chora) was recorded by several writers of the time, visible even from Athens, and as recently as 1700 AD, an underwater crater erupted just off the coast of the peninsula. The volcanic island now sleeps the sleep of Sleeping Beauty, allowing visitors to discover impressive lava domes and craters, centuries-old artificial terraces, archaeological sites, tiny villages, thermal baths, and stunning views of the surrounding Saronic Gulf.

Activity: We start the hike on the path leading to the volcano. There, we can enter the crater, a place of particular energy, and we encourage people to stay alone for a while. We take a snack break and enjoy the view. We begin the descent and take the bus back. On the return, we can either stop for refreshments in a traditional village café or a traditional coffeehouse near the volcano, in the village of Kameni.
